Fold Zines

  • Flippable Zine

This is the fastest and easiest zine version to put together, but it requires a little bit of extra equipment

    You will need:

    • A paper cutter or a technique that allows you to cut near-perfect quarter sheets
    • A stapler. Preferrably it's one of the long arm staplers that will do the measuring for you, but any old stapler will do
    • Staples
    • A flippable bilingual zine printed Duplex NoTumble aka Flip on Long Edge
      • Flippable zine for Portland, OR
      • Flippable zine for ANYWHERE -- immigrant rights organization contact page left blank
      • Original Scribus files for flippable zine so you can edit the immigrant rights organization contact page for your area

    Instructions

    • Print the flippable zine double sided using "Flip on Long Edge" aka "Duplex NoTumble"
    • Cut the page in to quarter sheets
    • Use the language and page numbers to stack the quarter sheets in the correct order.
    • Staple twice along the midline (2.75")
    • Fold along the staples

If you don't have a stapler that will do the measuring for you

    • They aren't terribly expensive
      • This one was $26.79 at the time of writing
      • This one costs a little more, but if you're going to be doing thousands? The extra $20 might be worth it
      • If you're going to be making a lot of zines and the right stapler is your barrier to using the flippable zines? contact us -- we might have the budget to buy you a stapler
    • Follow the instructions above, but before you staple, fold the booklets in half
    • Use whatever stapler you've got to staple along the crease
  • Folded Zine

This zine is more work to put together, but it only requires a pair of scissors and a copy of the zine. There are quite a few pieces of equipment that can be used to make this process more efficient, and one day we might prioritize describing all that. But if you're going to invest in equipment anyway? We recommend the flippable zine.
